President Obama gave a statement the other week to protect Bristol Bay and nearby lands from any offshore drilling and exploration. “The President’s announcement was a major victory for Bristol Bay and a step in the right direction,” says Elizabeth Herendeen, marketing director for Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association and a dear friend of Seattle Fish Co.  Herendeen continued to explain that although a great step, it is just a step in the fight against the proposed Pebble Mine.  The next step to protect Bristol Bay will be a decision regarding land-based mineral development under the Clean Water Act. This ruling will affect the waters which feed into the bay.
