It’s Officially 2015 Halibut Season: the First Fish!

Halibut lovers rejoice; it’s officially halibut season!  The opener was this past Saturday, March 14 and although the weather conditions weren’t ideal, the crews braved rough seas.  Our first shipments just landed on our dock and the fish are beautiful! One of our first deliveries was caught on the fishing vessel Xulxaltsa, named after the fisherman’s mother and was caught in Neah Bay Washington state. Other shipments came from our friends in Sitka, Alaska.  Thankfully, the IPHC (International Pacific Halibut Commission) set the 2015 quota at 29.22 million pounds, compared to 27.5 million last year—a 6.3% increase.  Prices may be a bit steep for the first catches, but fresh halibut is worth the price tag.  Contact your Seattle Fish Co. sales rep to get your hands on whole, dressed or filleted halibut for the weekend!
